ABOUT US

“Sharing our Saviour where the integrity of tradition meets the promise of the future.”

At Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, we share our concerns for each other and for our community. We have a commitment to be the channels of God’s love, and this commitment shapes our services and program. We put ourselves into traditions of the Church, our Pastor is available to administer the Sacraments, preach and teach God’s word, and prayer.

Our Saviour’s in Long Beach is a dynamic growing fellowship here you’ll find real people whose Christian love and commitment enables and empowers them to reach out to other real people in need. There are many opportunities for participation. These opportunities range from attending classes, Bible study, service organizations, choir, witnessing to worshipping every Sunday.

You are invited to share with us the energy and opportunities for spiritual and personal growth that are here. We believe you will find a deeply spiritual, caring community of believers in which you can know a loving God and receive the strength to make God known.

WORSHIP!

Expect a warm welcome at our OSLC. We know visiting a church for the first time can be intimidating. Greeters will shake hands with you at the door and can answer questions before you enter the sanctuary. Here at OSLC we worship Sunday mornings at 10:00 AM as we continue exploring new liturgies and hymns from the ELCA’s (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) new hymnal. Holy Communion is observed at each Sunday service. We honor the time-tested integrity of classical liturgy as well as services that are a blend of old and new. New contemporary music increasingly enhances our worship experiences.

A small nursery is available for younger children during worship. All children are welcome – wiggles and all – during service. During our children’s chat, they’ll be asked to come forward to the altar to hear a message especially for them, after which they may head over to Sunday School or rejoin their parents in the pews.

You may fill out an information card (in the pew rack) and put it into the offering plate. Let us know that you visited with us! A prayer request sheet is also available at the entrance to the sanctuary.

Fellowship coffee hour takes place following the worship service in the Bjerke Fellowship Hall adjacent to the sanctuary. Please join us for conversation and fellowship!

The church is handicap accessible: numerous reserved parking spaces are available and there is a ramp at the main entry doors.

You are invited to participate in Our Saviour’s vocal or handbell choirs, or sing or play instrumental solos. Each musical group works toward increased musicianship that enhances spiritual growth.

RING!

Handbell Choir – Rehearses on Tuesdays, 6:00-7:00 p.m., September through April. They play for worship once a month at 10:00 a.m. services. We are blessed at Our Saviour’s to have handbells ranging in size from very tiny sweet bells to large gorgeous resonant bells. This choir plays intermediate music and rings 5 octaves of Schulmerich Handbells. The handbell choir is a group that rings recognizable music with melodies and harmony. The ability to read music is helpful but we are happy to guide anyone who is interested in playing the bells and they would be a welcome addition to our group. Substitutes are always needed. Click here to register.
