Social Concerns/Service Opportunities
Our Saviour’s is involved in many outreach programs including the “Blanket Brigade” a group of volunteers making baby blankets for families in need, year-long food collections for Lutheran Social Services, a Christmas Angel Tree providing toys to children in foster care, participation in the Long Beach chapter of Habitat for Humanity, and other local charities. Many members also participate in various social advocacy programs.
Education Programs
Sunday school is available during 10am worship for preschool-8th grade children. Adult classes in Biblical studies, parenting and forums for faith and life discussion are scheduled throughout the year. A robust book club meets once a month. Vacation Bible School is held every summer. Leaders and volunteers are always sought after in our education programs.
Global Mission Ministries
Our Saviour’s members participate in many projects such as school and health kits for LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF and an annual boutique from NAME supporting African artisans and clean water projects in developing countries.
Centering Prayer
If you are finding yourself feeling overwhelmed with your "go, go, go" schedules of daily life and looking for an opportunity to "center" yourself and take the opportunity to deepen your relationship with God, check out this form of Christian Meditation. Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church hosts an open weekly Centering Prayer group and we invite you to join us. No experience necessary. Centering Prayer is a method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, prayer in which we experience the Divine’s immanent presence with us. Centering prayer is grounded in relationship with God, through Christ, and is a practice to nurture that relationship.
The Altar Guild provides for our liturgical and seasonal needs for church decorations and paraments. They also set the Lord’s Table each week for Holy Communion and provide a spiritually welcoming home for congregants and visitors. The Altar Guild gathers to prepare for Sunday worship.
